A man has died hours after being attacked by a dog, thought to be his own, in east London.
The victim, aged in his mid 50s, suffered serious head injuries when the Rottweiler-type dog mauled him in New City Road, Newham, on Sunday morning.
He was taken to hospital where he died later that night.
Armed officers were called to protect the public because the dog was "dangerously out of control". The dog was later caught and destroyed.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
