Irked by the accusations made by an Orissa Hockey Association official against former India captain Dilip Tirkey, thousands of fans and prominent players are taking to the streets on Wednesday.
The protesters will hold a rally in Tirkey's home district of Sundargarh with a set of demands, which includes removal of OHA Secretary Pratap Satpathy.
After the Orissa Steelers' were ousted at the semi-finals stage of the Premier Hockey League, Satpathy had reportedly blamed Tirkey for the defeat.
This enraged hockey fans of Tirkey's home district and they decided to organise the protest rally.
"Insult to Dilip is insult to the hockey fraternity of the state. A person who does not know anything about hockey has been holding a post in the association for such a long time," Gregory Minz, a former state player and an MLA from Rajgangpur said.
