SAN DIEGO — As University of San Diego students rushed the Jenny Craig Pavilion court following the Toreros' 63-55 upset Monday night of No. 20 Saint Mary's and carried junior guard Brandon Johnson around on hundreds of shoulders, he felt as if he were in a dream.
USD's third win ever against a top-25 team was also its first in the 7-year-old venue.
"It was like something you see in a movie," said Johnson, after planting his feet firmly on the ground a day later. He led USD with 25 points, 20 in the second half. He also had three assists and three steals.
"It was the first time anything like that had ever happened to me. It was a wild ride, scary at first. I saw a sea of people coming towards me. Our ragin' bull, (freshman forward) Rob Jones, lifted me, so I wouldn't get swallowed up by the crowd. I felt like I was on top of the world."
