WASHINGTON — With his 3-year-old son Jake in his arms, former infielder Chuck Knoblauch met Friday with congressional lawyers for 90 minutes. Afterward, Knoblauch said his goal is to make "baseball fair," and teach a lesson of responsibility to his son.
"One day when he grows up, he won't have to worry about drugs in sports," Knoblauch said. "That's why I have him here today, to learn a valuable lesson: If you do something in life, be prepared to talk about it openly and honestly."
Knoblauch, a second baseman who won three World Series rings with the New York Yankees and another with the Minnesota Twins, was the first of five witnesses to meet with lawyers from the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is investigating steroids in baseball.
Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte will be on Capitol Hill Monday with pitcher Roger Clemens on Tuesday. Clemens' trainer, Brian McNamee, will appear Feb. 7 and Kirk Radomski, a former New York Mets clubhouse attendant, appears Feb. 12.
All five will appear before the full committee to testify under oath
