Venus and Jupiter were seen in a brilliant celestial embrace on Friday, lighting up the easterly skies.
While to the human eye Venus and Jupiter looked set for collision, it was only the perspective obtained from the earth. Up there, in the sky, the planets were close but they never physically touched.
The Venus-Jupiter conjunction is the fourth this century, but a conjunction as close will next occur only in May 2011.
