'If I could change history...'

So, Maradona finally apologises. Or does he, really? Either way, just how disappointing is that - the errant genius striving to put to rest the longest-running, most-debated, much-relished episode in footballing history. Not on, Diego. It smacks of someone being smoothened, not so much weathered, by time. And that is not the Maradona we like to know.

Celebrated Uruguayan poet, Eduardo Galeano puts it best: "Maradona is uncontrollable when he speaks, but much more so when he plays: no one can predict the devilish tricks this inventor of surprises will dream up for the simple joy of throwing the computers off track, tricks he never repeats."
